This short tutorial will show you how to change the skins of the Horseys as they race across the track to earn you lots of money........if you have any trouble at all during this stage then please e-mail me at this address: horsey@teamginga.co.uk, and I'll be happy to answer your questions
For creating skins I personally use Paint Shop Pro v5.0, but you can use other paint packages like Adobe Photoshop, etc. But AVOID using those pants packages that Microsoft give you with Windows (i.e Paint)
First of all the skins will need to be in BMP or bitmap format. The images themselves need to be at size of:
48 pixels wide &
42 pixels high
If the images aren't this particular size I would expect the program to produce some strange results.............
I set the number of colours on my skins at 16 million, I don't know what they would turn out like when at 256, but I would avoid using any colours less than 256 as your Horseys may not look as good......
Once you have created your 6 skins of all 6 Horseys (red, yellow, orange, green, blue & purple) you need to use the Horsey Skin Directory Maker (skindirmak.exe) to name your skin set which will produce a series of directories in which you will place your skins in.
The program will now tell you your directory into which you place your skins, find this directory in your paint package and............
......save them as the following filenames (you can't call them anything else, they won't work otherwise):
Red Horsey: red.bmp
Yellow Horsey: yellow.bmp
Orange Horsey: orange.bmp
Green Horsey: green.bmp
Blue Horsey: blue.bmp
Purple Horsey: purple.bmp
Now to change the skins in the program, on the Bet It screen under Horsey-Related menu bar at the top click on 'Change Horsey Skins'. Now select your skin set name from before and away we go. Unfortunately Horsey v5.3 will not save your previous skin preferences, so everytime you load up the game you will have to select them again.
If you create a cool set of skins you want to share with the world then please visit our website to see how to upload them onto our servers:
http://www.teamginga.co.uk/horsey/skins.htm
Or you could even put them on your own site and create a Horsey Fan Site (but please tell me before hand so that I know where they are all found, since eventually I want to create a webring)
Hope you have fun with the game and look out for new versions!
